Dubrovnik – Croatia

TOP THREE HIGHLIGHTS

1. The Sea – Water Sport Activities

The Sea is as clear as it can get – Crystal clear. The moment you look at it, you just want to jump straight in. Sandra and I had in mind to do some water activities as we both love trying things we haven’t done before – especially if they involve an adrenaline rush! For reasonable prices you can try out some cool things like Kayaking and Parasailing (what we chose to do!). I recommend trying out these two water activities, as they give you a great view of Dubrovnik from a another perspective. Doing them during sunset would probably be even better but we decided to do both in the morning as it was less crowded. There were just 3 other couples when we went Kayaking which was a really nice group size. The best part of the Kayak tour was when we stopped off in a cave for lunch. We were given an hour to eat, relax and have a swim in the hidden beach in the cave. We also had the opportunity to try scuba diving and a cliff dive (but we weren’t mentally prepared for the cliff dive part- NEXT TIME!)

2. Hiking- The views

This was our first ever major hike together, and it couldn’t have been any better. There is a cable car to take you up…but I recommend taking that on the way back down and braving the hiking experience to the top as it is SO MUCH BETTER! The view is great when you reach the top via cable car but we found that he cable wires and cable cars disturb the full view. If you do the hike… you’ll be amazed with the uninterrupted view you get as you climb towards the top. There are spots along the way to stop for a rest and the views are awesome. It took us around 2-3 hours overall, but we stopped several times on the way. If you are interested in seeing the sunset, have a break just before the very top and relax with a bottle of wine and great view! Or you could have a drink at Restaurant Panorama at the end of the hike but I would personally suggest not eating there as it’s very overpriced. You can have a great meal in Panorama’s sister restaurant: ‘Dubravka 1836‘ in the old town.

Recommended – Instead of following the Serpentine Path all the way up, we went on a much more challenging route by going off the trail and climbing up the hillside – Bear Grylls style – Much more fun!

3. Walking through the Old Town

There’s so much to see as soon as you enter through Pile Gate and it never gets boring no matter how much you visit! From souvenir shops to hidden restaurants and historical sites… there is so much to see and do. But above all, the old town is so beautiful, especially during the ‘golden hour’ when the sun starts setting. If you are a big fan of Game of Thrones you will definitely love it as you might have heard King’s Landing was filmed there. Since we went towards end of April, the place wasn’t overcrowded. I hear that in May it starts to get very busy as the tourists flood into the city for peak tourist season.
There are so many nice places to have lunch or dinner in the old town. All these places look cosy and romantic. However, there is one that we both will never forget for the best sushi we have EVER HAD!  Oyster and Sushi Bar Bota
